RESTORATION 1949 D1 - PART 5

March 2000 : Blasting & etch priming.

March 2000
The engine still progresses slowly. Cylinder is back after the rebore. New piston and rings arrived. Big end and crankshaft still being repaired.

I've been at work sandblasting and applying etch primer - not long until we see that first coat of mist green!

The rear hub doesn't look so good now we can see it up close. Some straightening to be done here.

The before and after of sandblasting.

The front hub, fork leg caps, mudguard stay clamps. Blasted and ready for undercoating with epoxy etch primer. Etch priming must be done within hours of sandblasting to seal the surface before rust begins.

First trip to the chrome plater. Handlebars, fork legs, petrol cap. The wheel rims are being stripped at the same time.

Primed and waiting.
All the etch priming is to be done with aerosol cans. As it produces a matt surface the job is very easy.
